SDR FORUM TO CO-HOST WORKSHOP ON END-TO-END RECONFIGURABILITY

DENVER, CO, Sept. 5, 2006 –- End-to-end reconfigurability will be the focus of a day-long workshop the Software Defined Radio (SDR) Forum will co-host with End-to-End Reconfigurability-Phase 2 (E²R II), an integrated project sponsored by the European Commission. The workshop will be held September 11 in Munich, Germany – prior to the SDR Forum's general meeting (Sept. 12-14) – with reconfigurability, SDR and cognitive-radio leaders from around the globe participating; modem configuration, RF, security, regulation and standardization will be among the topics covered.

The E²R II project's key objective is to devise, develop and test architectural designs of adaptive communication systems, in order to provide an expanded set of choices to users, application and service providers, operators and manufacturers in the area of heterogeneous mobile radio.

E²R II is one of several projects and organizations with which the SDR Forum maintains formal liaison activities; others include the IEEE, Object Management Group, International Telecommunication Union, and Japan's IEICE.

The Forum is an international, nonprofit organization promoting the development and deployment of SDR technologies for advanced wireless systems that support the needs of civil, commercial and military market sectors. At the Forum's three-day general meeting, SDR development leaders will come together from all over the world to discuss key issues relating to the technology and its deployment. The meeting will entail focused plenary sessions that address the business and technical aspects of the SDR Forum, management of work, and approval of documents. A keynote address on the status and future of military radio communications will kick off the meeting.
