MACTEC WINS TWO CONTRACTS FROM ST. JOHNS RIVER WATER MANAGEMENT DISTRICT

GAINESVILLE, FL, Oct. 7, 2005 -- MACTEC Engineering & Consulting (MACTEC E&C) has been selected by the St. Johns River Water Management District to provide scientific, technical and field support services, and geographic information system (GIS) and technical support services. The two one-year contracts with two years of renewal options have a contract capacity of $3.5 million. Bruce C. Coles, president of MACTEC and chairman and CEO of MACTEC, Inc., the holding company (www.mactec.com) - made the announcement.

The St. Johns River Water Management District is located in Palatka, FL and is responsible for managing ground and surface water supplies in all or part of 18 counties in northeast and east-central Florida. Key District duties include issuing permits for water use activities and/ or activities that have the potential to adversely impact ground or surface water resources and adjacent lands, buying land to preserve or restore wetlands and water resources, conducting research about the quality and quantity of ground and surface water resources and mapping ground and surface water resources.

According to MACTEC Gainesville Office Manager Mark C. Diblin, P.G., as a result of these wins, MACTEC expects to be adding staff to provide services to the District. Diblin said the firm will provide scientific and technical support for various District projects, some of which may include:

  • Installing and maintaining scientific monitoring equipment
  • Collecting hydrologic, biological, water quality and sediment field samples
  • Handling/processing samples
  • Data analysis/entry/management
  • Project management
  • Report development

Diblin added that principal GIS/technical support tasks will include providing GIS and other technical support for District environmental monitoring and restoration projects, and applying GIS software to perform spatial analyses, map preparation and other GIS-related tasks as well as engineering and modeling support. As part of the MACTEC Team, Soil & Water Engineering Technology, Inc. (SWET) will be available to provide modeling assistance.
