MACTEC UNVEILS INNOVATIVE CLIENT SERVICES PORTAL

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, May 20, 2004 -- MACTEC Engineering & Consulting (MACTEC E&C) has introduced MAP - MACTEC Application Portal -- a secure web-based application to host client database and GIS applications. Bruce C. Coles, president of MACTEC E&C and chairman & CEO of MACTEC, Inc., the holding company (www.mactec.com) - made the announcement.

According to MACTEC Senior Principal Environmental Scientist Richard J. Manser, MAP can save clients thousands of dollars annually and also slash development time. All the required software is included on MAP's server end - clients only need a web browser, high-speed web access and a valid user name/password to access the portal.

"This scalable solution eliminates redundant data management, since the pertinent data is accessible and shared on MAP," Manser said. "There's no need for clients to develop the application or hire outside contractors. The service is also monitored 24/7 as hardware and software maintenance is part of the program and system backups are tailored to each project."

Manser emphasized that clients will achieve improved productivity for projects because distributed project teams all have access to the same data. Teams in separate geographic locations will be able to work in a collaborative manner, using the same tools and having real-time access to data they know is current.

"Technical issues can easily be discussed and resolved quickly regardless of location," he said. "It's cost-effective to use on small single sites or for large multi-facility clients."

MAP provides web-based tools allowing users to easily access their data. Data can be queried/added/updated from intuitive screens, or selected from points on a geospatial (GIS) display using GIS query facilities. MAP offers a combination of query displays, converting tabular query results to points on a GIS display (table-to-GIS). It also allows displaying data underlying GIS points in tabular format (GIS-to-table).

Any type of client tabular and GIS data can be loaded into and displayed from MAP. Client data currently managed through MAP includes:

  • Aerial photography
  • Air quality
  • Asset management
  • Biology and endangered species
  • Chemical (air, groundwater, soil, lead/asbestos)
  • Geology and soil-related features
  • Flood control
  • Land use
  • Military (ordnance and explosives)
  • Real estate/parcels
  • Site development
  • Topography
  • Transportation (rail, road, airports)
  • Treatment systems
  • Utilities
  • Underground storage tanks
  • Wells
  • Wetlands

MACTEC, based in Alpharetta, GA, is a $434 million environmental, engineering, construction management, and infrastructure services firm with 3,300 employees in over 100 offices nationwide. The company's Bay Area regional headquarters is in Petaluma; additional regional offices are in Oakland and San Francisco.
