BERRYMAN & HENIGAR WINS $1 MILLION AM/FM/GIS CONTRACT FROM CITY OF DURHAM, NC
ORLANDO, FL, July 30, 2003 --
Berryman & Henigar has been awarded a $1
million contract from the City of Durham, NC to implement the City's
AM/FM/GIS (Automated Mapping/Facilities Management/Geographic
Information Systems) system. Ray Berryman, chief executive officer of
Berryman & Henigar, made the announcement.
According to David Cates, Public Works CADD/GIS Administrator, for the
City of Durham, Berryman & Henigar will implement the City's water and
wastewater GIS using new ESRI geodatabase technology, as well as
integrating multiple operations into the GIS such as asset management,
work order and inventory control. The project also includes
applications development, mapping, systems integration and data
management training.
"Berryman & Henigar will use data from a variety of sources provided by
the City to build the GIS layers for water and sewer," Cates said.
"These applications will allow City personnel to easily maintain our
water and sewer systems and will give us a geographically correct map of
the utilities for the first time. Additionally, the firm will hyperlink
all construction drawings and valve cards to the GIS, so anyone can
access appropriate drawings when using the system."
According to Jerry Marquez, Berryman & Henigar Senior Vice President and
Director of the National AM/FM/GIS Division, who is supervising the
project, City maintenance crews should be able to respond more quickly
in an emergency situation. He said visually displaying (on maps)
information such as age and/or composition of water and sewer lines, as
well as the maintenance history of those lines, will allow the City to
make cost-effective decisions about routine system maintenance.
"They'll be able to locate breaks faster, trace the line to find the
correct valves to shut off, and know ahead of time the line size and
material so that they have the right repair materials on their truck,"
he said. "Operations management will be able to immediately see on maps
where maintenance is occurring, or has occurred, at any time. In
addition, the AM/FM/GIS will be developed with a sound connectivity
model to allow for hydraulic modeling and long-term system planning."
Berryman & Henigar provides municipal management consulting, civil
engineering, public finance, building safety, asset management, and
program and construction management to public agencies.
