BERRYMAN & HENIGAR AWARDED $600,000 ENGINEERING SERVICES CONTRACT FROM HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY

TAMPA, FL, July 25, 2001 -- Berryman & Henigar has been awarded a two-year $600,000 professional engineering services contract from Hillsborough County, FL. Ray Berryman, chief executive officer of Berryman & Henigar made the announcement. The contract also has an option to renew at the same fee for an additional two years.

Hillsborough County is one of Florida's most populous with more than a million residents. County seat is Tampa. According to Hillsborough County Project Manager David Glicksberg, Berryman & Henigar will be providing a wide range of water resources, utilities and transportation engineering services over the next two years.

"We selected Berryman & Henigar as one of the firms to provide engineering services because they have the expertise necessary to help us with all of these varied projects," Glicksberg said. "We have also been working with them for over a year on stormwater-related projects and they have done an excellent job."

Berryman & Henigar is currently preparing construction plans, specifications and design documentation for three key county projects now underway:

Brooker Creek Headwaters Restoration Project -- Located in northwest Hillsborough, it contains the headwaters of Brooker Creek, which flow into Lake Tarpon, a state of Florida Surface Water Improvement & Management (SWIM) priority water body. The goals of the project are: 1) Restore the historic surface water hydrology and water storage capacity within the project site through the use of ditch blocks or filling-in of parts of existing agricultural and drainage ditches within the property; 2) Restore historic wetland habitats within the project site and, where appropriate, explore opportunities for wetland creation in disturbed upland areas, where upland soil profiles have been destroyed; 3) Provide stormwater treatment within the project site. The site itself has been impacted historically by agricultural ditching, manmade drainage features, pasturing, and encroaching urbanization.
Rocky/Brushy Creek-Interceptor Canal: For the Rocky/Brushy Creek Watershed Management Plan, which will alleviate flooding and erosion problems along Brushy Creek. Berryman & Henigar is also supervising all necessary permit applications with state and federal regulatory agencies and identifying right-of-way and easement requirements and addressing all utility conflicts.
Archie Creek Phase 2 - Evergreen Estates: For the North Archie/Archie Creek Watershed Management Plan. An existing cross drain under U.S. Highway 301 will be replaced and 4,700 linear feet of channel cross sections on both sides of the highway will be improved and the channel will be upgraded to relieve flooding in Evergreen Estates and provide erosion protection to the creek banks.
